2. Basic principle
IronStride works without a server of its own. There is no analytics or tracking SDK, no user account with the provider and no sharing of data with third parties. All training data (strength, running, body measurements) is stored on your device (Apple SwiftData) and — if you are signed in to iCloud — additionally in the private CloudKit database of your own Apple account, so that it appears on your devices with the same Apple ID. Felix Kamm as the developer has no access to any of this data.
3. What data the app processes — and why
| Type of data | Purpose | Where it is stored |
|---|---|---|
| Location (GPS) | Recording distance, route, pace and elevation while running | Locally on the device; the starting point of a run is also sent to Apple's weather service (see Weather) |
| Weather (Apple WeatherKit) | Adding temperature and wind at the time of a run | The starting point and time of the run are sent to Apple's weather service; the result is stored locally |
| Bluetooth | Connecting to a heart rate chest strap, if you pair one | Only the strap's identifier is remembered, locally on the device |
| Motion data (pedometer/accelerometer) | Steps, cadence and a distance fallback when GPS is weak | Locally on the device only |
| Heart rate (Apple Health) | Live heart rate zones and analysis after the run | Read from Apple Health, processed locally only |
| Workouts (Apple Health) | Finished workouts appear in Health/Fitness (and from there optionally in apps like Strava) | Written to Apple Health |
| Calendar | Exporting planned sessions as events | Only when enabled, in your Apple Calendar |
| Camera/Photos | Progress photos for body measurements | Locally on the device only |
| Notifications | Training reminders and the end of rest periods | Locally on the device only |
Each of these permissions is requested separately by iOS and can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings without making the app as a whole unusable (exception: GPS tracking requires the location permission).
4. No sharing with third parties
IronStride does not send any data to servers of Felix Kamm. Data leaves the device in these ways:
- Sync with Apple Health (and from there, if applicable, with apps you have connected to Health yourself, e.g. Strava). This transfer is subject to Apple's own privacy policy.
- Weather lookup with Apple (WeatherKit). When a run is saved, its starting point and time are sent to Apple's weather service to add the weather. Apple's privacy policy applies.
- Data export (Settings → Data). The backup or spreadsheet file contains your complete training history and body measurements. You decide where it goes in the share sheet; from that moment on, it is outside the app.
5. Apple Watch
If you use the Apple Watch app, today's sessions and, during a run, the current readings are transferred to your watch via Apple's own pairing. The data stays between your own devices.
6. iCloud sync
If your device is signed in to iCloud, IronStride syncs your data between your devices via the private CloudKit database of your Apple account. This does not depend on a purchase and is included in every version. There is no server of the provider involved; the data only passes through your own private iCloud storage, which is governed by Apple's privacy terms. Without an iCloud sign-in, the app keeps working locally only — it shows the current status in Settings under "Data".
7. Deleting data
You can delete your training data in the app at any time (Settings → Data); deleted entries also disappear from the iCloud mirror. Uninstalling removes the data from the device — the data in your private iCloud remains until you delete it (iOS Settings → your Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Account Storage).
Without iCloud sync there is no other backup — losing the device or uninstalling then deletes the training history irrevocably. Create a backup regularly under Settings → Data if your history matters to you.
8. In-app purchase
The complete app is free to use; insights cover the last 90 days. "IronStride Pro" (one-time purchase, no subscription) removes that limit. The purchase is handled entirely by Apple — the app only learns from Apple whether it is unlocked, not any payment details.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. Since your data lives on your device and in your own iCloud storage, and you can view, export and delete it yourself, you can exercise these rights directly in the app. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
